The 2-week International Artist Residency was a unique annual opportunity for Indian and International artists to learn and create in a cross-cultural setting by engaging with questions about “What it means to be human”.
Art for Change’s 2018 International Artist Residency brought together 7 Internationals artists from Germany, Hungary, and USA with 7 Indian artists from Andaman & Nicobar, Bangalore/Kerala, Gujarat, Ladakh, West Bengal, and New Delhi. This year’s theme was ‘Personhood,’ exploringthe idea of Personhood and Identity as it relates to the artist, their practice, and specific social/technological contexts, with the artists working across painting, drawing, sculpture, video, and installation.
Participating artists lived and worked in a common residential and studio space in East of Kailash, working individually at work stations in a common room, reflecting collectively during daily afternoon ‘chai-time’ discussions, and shared the outcomes in a public exhibition at AIFACS immediately following the residency.
