Mini Art Residency for Students
From the 30th October - 4th November we held a four day mini artist residency for student artists from across India. The program had a cohort of eleven student artists. We explored the purposes of art and the connections between the arts and faiths, challenges within it and through it opening dialogues for interfaith and intercultural dialogues in local and global contexts. Through it, we drew upon deeper ideas about stewardship, beauty, the purpose of art, and what it means to be human, as we seek to build peace within our communities and our world.
A core aspect of the program explored and identified the role of art and artists in society, getting closer to understanding the purpose of art and artists, of each other's call as artists. The program fostered conversations and dialogues through the capable resource people who unpacked various topics within the overarching theme, speaking through their personal and professional experiences. While considering these thematic directions, the program also focused on bringing together student artists to foster professional artistic practices, with opportunities to develop concepts in a unique context.
The mini residency, a unique and professional creative practice for four days created space to interact, share and build connections with each other, have professional mentorship, take part in critical conversations, daily reflections and through this process make artwork that is exhibited in this culminating exhibition.
