2010: Chehera - The Human Face of TB

In 2010 Art for Change partnered with the NGO Global Health Advocates India (GHAI) to run a residency that took 15 artists into Asia's largest Tuberculosis hospital here in New Delhi.  The goals were to learn about Tuberculosis, meet with patients, hear their stories, and then paint a human portrait of the disease.  Tuberculosis is for millions a physically, socially, and economically devastating disease. The tragedy is that TB is both curable and its treatment absolutely free. Yet because of the stigma attached the disease grows, with the urgency that some strains of TB are becoming drug-resistant.  As a result of this residency, in a collaboration between Art for Change, GHAI, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and Religare Art, an exhibition was held on World TB Day at Religare Art Gallery for Indian business and corporate leaders to challenge and inspire them to respond to the need within their spheres of influence.  The exhibition was opened by Ms.Sudha Pillai, Member Secretary Planning Commission, and Dr. Ashok Kumar, DDG Central TB Division, Government of India.
